Bird’s Eye View: Sleep, Eat and Profit

Let’s face it, we eat more than we sleep. So it should be no surprise that while travel is a US$1.33 trillion industry, food is three times the size. Indeed, according to this speaker, the global restaurant market was valued at US$3.8 trillion in 2019, up from US$2.7 trillion in 2014, and growing at 7% a year. It’s also a segment that’s increasingly being disrupted by technology, and is being watched by the hospitality players given how important food & beverage is to the hotel business. Get an overview of the hospitality and dining market and how you can get your chomp of the pie.

Closing Conversation: Reza Cockrell, Founder, The Habitat Penang Hill/Director, Pacific Tiger Group

He’s being hailed as the Malaysian entrepreneur leading Penang’s eco-tourism charge but we believe what he’s doing has influence and impact beyond national borders. As the co-founder and director of The Habitat Penang Hill, Reza Cockrell combines idealistic vision with entrepreneurial nous in his mission of creating this nature reserve on Penang Hill. His family also runs the Pacific Tiger Fund out of Hong Kong. He’s certainly got a colourful background. Born in Saudi Arabia and raised in Hong Kong, he regards Penang as his home, spending his childhood days in their family home on the Hill. In this one-on-one interview, we get to know his story, why he felt creating The Habitat was necessary to Penang and nature conservation, how he intends to make it sustainable financially, and his fund’s ambitions beyond Penang.
